Khorasan is a historical province situated in northeastern Iran. Rug making in the Khorasan province dates back to the 16th century. It is a strategically placed province near the Russian border in the north and India in the southeast.
This region is well known for its garden, shrub and tree designs. The central medallions are unusually round. They are also known for their excellent coloration. The reds are dyed with cochineal plus a significant amount of blues are used. This rug is a good example of all the traits of that region. The rug is approximately 90 years old and the condition is excellent. This rug has been signed by the weaver Raufi Deraksh and is also dated.
