Hamadan village rugs are known for their hand-knotted, strong, and sturdy quality, using local sheep’s wool. The pile is usually thick. Hamadan is a collecting center for all the nearby villages and is situated on a plateau, in central Iran. There is a large portfolio of designs used in village rugs - floral with the ‘herati’, ‘boteh’, ‘mahi’ etc. Motifs are displayed in various sizes. Natural dyes used are extracted from vegetables, insects, and roots.
