Hamadan village rugs are known for their hand-knotted, strong and sturdy quality, using local sheep’s wool. The pile is usually thick. Hamadan is a collecting centre for all the nearby villages and is situated on a plateau, in central Iran. There is a large portfolio of designs used in village rugs - floral with the ‘herati’, ‘boteh’, ‘mahi’ etc. Motifs are displayed in various sizes. Natural dyes used are extracted from vegetables, insects and roots. In order to produce mellow colours of red, blue, green etc.
